Citric acid
An acid in powder form. Does what vinegar does, without the smell, and stores as a dry powder for years.
Warning
- Harmful / irritantBecause this uses Citric acid
How to use it
Two tablespoons in half a litre of hot water gives a descaler for kettles, coffee machines, showerheads and taps. Dissolve it fully before use or the powder blocks a spray head.
Mix it as you need it. In solution the acid weakens over weeks, so a bottle made in spring is not the bottle you think it is by summer.
Safe on
The same rule as every acid: never on marble, limestone or other calcium-based stone, which it etches permanently.
Irritates eyes and airways as a loose powder. Add powder to water rather than water to powder, and keep it away from bleach.
